Yonsei Sarang Hospital opened in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do in 2003. Despite of its short history of five years, its artificial joint surgery is as good as any university hospital. According to 'Trend of spinal and artificial joint operation' by Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, last year this hospital was ranked in top 10 in operation quantity with university hospitals like Samsung medical center, Asan medical center.

Especially in last April, it achieved its second take-off by opening the second hospital in Bangbae-dong, Seoul. Now it is a specialized hospital equipped with total 7 operation rooms as well as 85 beds in Gangnam and 75 beds in Bucheon. Since the opening of the second hospital, about 550 to 600 patients in average have been visiting the hospital and performing 600 operations a month. What it thinks of most important when treating joint diseases is to 'protect its own cartilage'. Therefore, it introduced 'auto cartilage transplantation.' In this treatment, since cultivating the cartilage cell thousands times after extracting it from a patient's knee, it is injected to the damaged part. The injected cartilage cell regenerates the damaged cartilage tissue and prevents advance to 'degenerative arthritis.'

Arthroscopy operation performed by this hospital helps analyze the damage to cartilage. In case of damage to cartilage, it is sometimes not possible to detect even with special examinations like MRI. Arthroscopy can accurately detect even minor damage to cartilage because it directly inspects inside the knee joint with doctor's eyes.

Since equipments for arthroscopy are recently getting much smaller, it is applied to shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, ankle, and toe as well as knee joint. Yonsei Sarang Hospital manages a rehabilitation center for patients who went through surgery with the orthopedic specialist who operated the surgery and three doctors from Korea national sport university. The equipment for extracorporeal shock wave for frozen shoulder patients in this hospital is so expensive that it is found only around 10 hospitals in Korea. Yonsei Sarang Hospital has three of these equipments.

The level of medical service in this hospital is acknowledged by doctors from Japan, China, and other asian countries. Since March 2005, about 60 doctors from 6 asian countries including China, Vietnam, Singapore, etc. has visited it to learn 'artificial joint operation' and 'auto cartilage transplantation.'
